Indian sacking

YOUNG INDIAN WORKER SACKED ON HONEYMOON

ManiMan sacked, ripped off and now facing deportation after going overseas to get married.

Mani Saravanan came to Australia on a controversial 457 visa to work as a fabricator for Haldilka Nominees Pty Ltd trading as Ironbark Fabrications in Moree. Mani was a hard worker with a spotless record, he saved all his annual leave so he could go to India to get married.

Last year, Mani approached the company many times to apply for annual leave so he could travel to India to get married. The company continually refused to provide Mani with an annual leave form. Mani was refused on many occasions the opportunity to meet with the manager of the company to discuss his request. Eventually he applied for leave and left for India to get married. While on his honeymoon, Mani received a termination letter by the company via email.

Not only was Mani’s employment terminated but the company has denied his annual leave entitlements, despite being required to do so under Australian Workplace Laws, and he was not reimbursed his $700 that he had given his employer to pay for his permanent resident application.

Mani came to this country with a dream to work hard and for an opportunity to provide a better life for his future family.

The Construction Forestry Mining Energy Union is demanding action from the Federal Government to put an end to this type of exploitation of vulnerable guest workers. We are also campaigning to secure Mani’s proper entitlements from his employer.
