Ark Tribe in Canberra
The CFMEU campaign to defend workers’ rights
against the repressive anti-union Building and Construction laws, known as Australia’s Stasi, like the East German secret police – see ABCC on this blog – came to Canberra on friday.
Building worker Ark Tribe is on trial facing 6 months jail on 15th, 16th and 17th June for not attending an interrogation from the ABCC about his OHS activities.
He addressed union members. After questions and debate, they resolved to strike in protest if he is convicted and jailed.
The ABCC is the state political machine, originated with then then Minister Abott, devoted to destroying building and construction militancy.
Further, Rudd keeps the Howard ban on workers attending protests against these unjust labour laws.
This is a struggle for democratic rights at work to be free to be active in a union and the right to politically protest agaist repressive government laws.
