Dee dines

On the main ETS game in Canberra up on Parliament Hill, it is Tweedleddee and Tweedledum politics.

Apart from little merit policy discourse or ETS legislation with strategies to address the environmental crisis, Dee/Dum debates are the entertaining political discourse on offer.

I can’t say that Tweedledee Rudd Labor is doing nothing. It is doing the ETS. And subscribe to the ALP e-news and Stimulus Reports and visit http://www.alp.org.au/

What we do love is seeing Tweedledee having deservedly great delight in satirising Tweedledum. And at Dum’s splitting with the right wing/left wing almost off.

It is wonderous to see the Dum’s extreme right fighting back – and the Turnbullites attacking them. The Parliamentary gossip bubbles with many intrigues and conspiracies and extremes.

After the long years of Howard, Labor Dees are quite rightly sinking the boot into the Dums -and we enjoy the political spectacle.

Both don’t mention -we don’t hear of – the corporate interests in bed with both Dee and Dum.

Dinosaurs they may be, but powerful global corporate lobbyists in all sections of the State, ruling and winning despite what happens in the Senate vote.

In contrast – not ruling – the democratically organised thousands of concerned citizens counter lobbying for solutions to the environmental crisis. And over 30 years the Australian people polled want such action, but are to be denied this by both Dee and Dum.

What happened is that Dum was pressured to adopt an ETS, and not to sign Kyoto, but was voted out by the Australian people.

If doing nothing as past Dee/Dum policy decreed was politically not on, then the appearance of doing al ittle was vitle. Within the capitalist market, it was the ETS.

The ETS was what the corporates wanted, to make profit out of trading in pollution. No action on the environmental crisis was guaranteed. But billions compensating polluters as they continue to pollute.

Dee in government signed Kyotoa and introduced the ETS and wedge politics was the only game.

Many of Dum’s held to their support of the corporte hard denialist spin ‘that we polluters are not to blame at all’.

Other Dums nodding to the democratic vote admitted the pretence was up, humans do cause it – but added billions to Dee’s compensating those humans causing the environmental crisis.

Leadership discourse is the sport with Dee in command.

And the leading heroine in this sport is our own DPM – we all love her when she is getting stuck into the Liberals.

And so in the Rugby Leagues Football Club Queanbeyan, I went to a 6pm Labor party member dinner with Julia Gillard speaker.

She is able to have us laughing along as she exposes that day’s Liberla/National antics on the ETS in Parliament.

She has that incisive political scaple to scin Turnbull slowly.

At Labor dinners we all say she is the next PM. The sooner the better I say.

I do not like her spin that ‘WorkChoices is gone and fairness reigns at work’.

I was going to ask questions on her lack of judgement on this issue and caution against her
sell-out on OHS.

But I thought better of it as I would have been sliced with the same professional smooth spin.

And questions obviously are not allowed anyway, as back to Parliament House for the main game. So we party faithful enjoy the auctions with MUA prominent. I note at dinners as well as raffle tickets there are forms to fill in your credit card details for donations.

Dr Mike Kelly is the new Labor Member in this bell-whether seat of Eden-Monaro. He acknowledges YRAW but toes the line and so I am told is good as Parliamentary Secretary for Defence Support.

And I noticed soon after the dinner, Turnbull on a hot blustery day opening his empty office with no Eden-Monaro candidate, but with Nelson Tuckey helping.

I had an experience handing out Your Rights at Work pamphlets in this NSW electorate, seeing the poverty in these rural towns…and people swung to Labor.

No doubt due to Dum self-destruction, Dee in the leadership sport retains support.

I don’t know what they think of Tweedledee and Tweedledum ETS antics in this scorching weather.

What is clear when you get behind ETS in whateveer Dum/Dee form, the ETS ensures the same neo-liberal market types rule.

Those free-marketers who failed with the GFC and gave us the environmental crisis are now to profit with their ETS.

Dum/Dee know these global corporate interests will fail to address the environmental crisis, but the politics is good, it is said.

While Dee says believe in the ETS as a first step, this is a delusion for the environment – but superfine wedge politcs.

Dee is trouncing Dum in the polls.

And that, so the disclipine goes, is the only point.

Bring on a double-dissolution I say…let’s see how the Dums crash at an election.

No say Dees…we want the ETS.

The final week of ETS spin and excitement is coming up. Should be good for Dee.

Like millions of others, while loving this political spectacle, I am angry as the environmental
crisis deepens (see this blog).

Why not a debate whether a green capitalism is possible.

Or is this another delusion?

This is made clearer since the capitalist crisis and the system’s contradictions and instability.
