Abbott

We all know Abbott.

One memory I have is in Adelaide at an AIRS conference addressed by Abbott as Workplace Relations Minister spinning his Building and Construction laws.

At the time little building work in Adelaide meant few strikes.

More union industrial action in Melbourne and Perth had Abbott’s ‘double-speak’ labelling lawful and legitimate workers collective bargaining as somehow in his mind above the law.

Union action was to be made unlawful.

And punished, penalised.

And it was – later, when Howard first got the numbers in the Senate, he created the ABCC Stasi.

‘Why with 99.9% of the time of building and construction workers not on strike is industrial action a public issue?’

‘ Further, why should this apply to Adelaide with few strikes.’ I asked.

It is National was Abbott’s reply.

Natonal repression of workers active in their unions by the ABCC was the political directive.

The corporate and government lawyers went not for de-regulation, but excessive BCII Act regulation against union organising, condemned by the ILO.

This system still remains today

See this blog under ABCC.

I remind readers that in an earlier blog I call Australia’s two major political parties Tweedle Dee, the Australian Labor Party (ALP) with Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and Tweedle Dum the Opposiion, the Coaltion -Liberals and Nationals.

The Opposition (Dum) is at this moment splitting. They have voted out the Leader of the Opposition, their leader Malcom Turnbull and put in a new leader, Tony Abbott.

The Australian Labor Party is in government with a popular majority in the Lower House of the Australian Parliament and PM Kevin Rudd is in control.

But in Australia’s Senate, the ALP does not have a majority. The government has to negotiate in this case on a ETS Emissions Trading Sceme proposed legislation with the Liberal/Nationals, and with the minority Greens party, and with independents – including an extremist christian climate-denier backing the corporate polluters and a regional small business lawyer.

The major Party names are misleading as the Liberals are the US Republican Right. Labor is more liberal corporate management with working family support and the Nationals right-wing agrarian-based.

Abbott is on TV for his ‘double-speak.’

The Opus Dei faction must be pleased.
