The ACTU Jobs Summit: Pathways to Recovery addressed the impact of Global Financial Crisis on working Australians and their families. Opening with an address from Professor Richard Freeman from Harvard University, the summit heard from four workers who have recently lost their jobs – representing a small part of the over 115,000 Australians and the 50 million workers around the world who have lost their jobs in the last year.
Leading academics from around Australia gave their views on the pathway to recovery and quality job generation in Australia. Community groups and unions participated in the debate around issues of employment and recovery for working Australians, generating jobs in Australia, and the quality of work. This summit is part of the ACTU’s long term focus on job creation and decent work.
