Abolish ABCC says ILO
A damaging report has just landed on Kevin Rudd’s desk from the International Labor Organisation (ILO) slamming the Rudd Government for allowing the ABCC to continue to operate.
This is the sixth time the international community has come out against the ABCC. But the PM is ignoring the report.

Building and construction workers need your help to make sure there is no way the Prime Minister can keep his head in the sand.
Why should the PM care? Well, he has been a huge supporter of the ILO and the advice that it gives. Kevin Rudd’s impassioned speech supporting the ILO and attacking WorkChoices for being in breach when in opposition is the reverse in government.
The ILO is the highly regarded international organisation that brings workers, employers and governments together to talk about employment conditions.
In the report, the ILO spells out a number of serious problems with the ABCC laws including:
– Restrictions on industrial action
– Excessive penalties and sanctions
– ABCC interference in trade union affairs
– Imprisonment for failing to give information or documents to the ABCC
The report calls on the Government to not only justify the continuation of the ABCC laws but also report on what measures they are taking to instruct the ABCC to stop from commencing proceedings or imposing penalties while the Government’s own Wilcox Review is underway.
